researcher spotlight

Welcome to a new feature at MANAR, the Researcher Spotlight, to honor studnets that have made great accomplishments in their research within the past month. Here, you can learn more about the students, their research, and goals.

Our first monthly spotlight features master’s student Tien Lo. Recently Tien has done a terrific job overcoming roadblocks in her research.

Synthesis of new ZIFs; applications of CO2 adsorption

Tell us something about your current research:

I'm working on the synthesis and properties of new ZIFs with open metal sites. Also, the modification of these via post synthesis linker exchange to get the better material for CO2 adsorption.

What got you interested in chemistry? How does chemistry inspire you?

Chemistry is full of challenges and difficult for me, but I love it. It has made me mature when I face challenges. Chemistry can changes the world, and the very least it has changed me. I have become more patient since I began working at MANAR. Every morning when I wake up, the first thing I think about is what will happen with my experiment. Maybe it will be good or bad, but it always surprises me. Chemistry has made my life more colourful.

What you like best about working at MANAR? What has been your proudest moment at MANAR?

I think MANAR is the best place to research in Viet Nam. It is a good opportunity for me to learn. We have a lot of quality instruments, a professional environment, and everyone is friendly.

We do research in Viet Nam with international standards through global mentoring. Mentors come from reputable universities and have a wide array of knowledge, so they can really help us on our research direction. By making us better scientists, the science of Viet Nam will be better in the future.

What are your future goals (scientific/career/short-term/long-term)?

Now, I am a Master student, so I will finish conducting research to write a good thesis and graduate. Becoming a scientist is my biggest dream. So, after I finish my master’s degree, perhaps I will keep doing on research.
